Yr Hafod Romers

Romers are small cards used for reading a grid reference accurately from a map. In their simplest form they consist of a ruler that matches the scale of map you’re using. They are named after their inventor Temporary Lieutenant Carrol Romer of the British Army in 1915.

Yr Hafod Romers

At Yr Hafod we have developed our own Romers to allow us to tailor them to suit the courses we deliver and provide the features most useful to Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Scout Leaders. You can order them below.

We have two designs. Our Basic Romer is suited for anyone from those just starting out on our training courses to those that are already qualified. Our Advanced Romer is aimed at those that use a variety of map scales or head to the hills in winter and need to predict avalanche-prone terrain.
