At Yr Hafod we are lucky to have a team of highly qualified staff that specialise in mountain activities. The strength of our team allows us to focus most of our work on our qualification training programmes. As a Scout centre, our main aim is to increase the number of permitted Scout leaders getting kids into the hills. However, we also offer the nationally recognised Mountain Leader and Rock Climbing Instructor (formerly the SPA) qualifications to both Scouters aiming a little higher and the general public.

To compliment our adventurous activities programme we offer the industry standard Rescue Emergency Care (REC) Emergency First Aid for the Outdoors (formerly REC Level 2) qualification every December.

As a centre with a focus on Scouting volunteers we try to keep our course prices to the minimum. To this end, all of our courses include food and indoor accommodation at our hostel in the Ogwen Valley.

Our Scout permit training and assessment weekends for climbing and hillwalking run throughout the year with the national qualifications running less frequently. For more details on our courses please check out the links below.

Covid 19

Yr Hafod is now closed until the current Coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis is over. As the Covid 19 restrictions are lifted we are hopeful that we can return to business in 2021. To help you with your planning for 2021 we are taking provisional bookings for the hostel and our activity courses and there’s even better news, we won’t be asking for any deposit or payment until the Government and the Scout Association have lifted the restrictions on residential activities taking place. Please phone for your first and second provisional dates. You can continue to browse the website as normal. Click on videos or buy a Buff in the menu to prepare yourself for when we are allowed out again. Stay safe everyone and we look forward to seeing you at Hafod in 2021.
