Navigation Experience Day

Covid 19

As of 26th April. Hikes (day) allowed, 30 adults if organised, no limit on youth partisipation.

This course is being run under the updated guidance from the Scout Association and is Covid secure. Please see here for guidance. You will need to travel separately if not in a family unit and have your PPE available. Social distancing will be observed at all times.

The day will operate from Caehopkin Scout Hall in the upper Swansea Valley and is being run by members of the ScoutsCymru Mountain training team. The day is intended for anyone who wants to develop their navigation skills.

Participants may come on this day for a number of reasons from gaining the skills they need to train young people in navigation to developing the navigation skills needed for assessment for a Scout Hillwalking Permit. No previous experience is needed.

Refreshments are provided at the Scout hall but participants will need to bring their own packed lunch.

The day will start at 9-00 a.m. at the Scout hall with an opportunity to meet other participants and staff and discuss the programme for the day. At this stage participants will be split into teams based previous experience to try to ensure they are working with people of a similar standard.

Teams will then leave the base and travel to suitable venues nearby to enjoy a day out before returning to the base around mid afternoon. During the day participants will be able to develop various navigation skills including the use of a map and compass. The level of training offered will be varied to suit the needs and experience of the participants to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable and productive day.

Covid 19

Yr Hafod is now closed until the current Coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis is over. As the Covid 19 restrictions are lifted we are hopeful that we can return to business in 2021. To help you with your planning for 2021 we are taking provisional bookings for the hostel and our activity courses and there’s even better news, we won’t be asking for any deposit or payment until the Government and the Scout Association have lifted the restrictions on residential activities taking place. Please phone for your first and second provisional dates. You can continue to browse the website as normal. Click on videos or buy a Buff in the menu to prepare yourself for when we are allowed out again. Stay safe everyone and we look forward to seeing you at Hafod in 2021.
